I read 9 books in May. I think I’m going to try for 100 in the year. So far this year I’ve read 36 books. The books I read in May are;

The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini, an Afghanistan so that’s my South Asian author. It is also a classic and if you haven’t read it I would recommend it.

Swing Time by Zadie Smith A modern day novel about 2 mixed race girls who meet at a dancing school. I found this OK but not one of my favourite reads. But then I’m into fantasy not realistic novels. However Vick Hope stated on Between the Covers that this was her all time best read. This covers the female dancer prompt.

The Organic Painter by Carnie Griffiths an interesting read for me as I’m into watercolour painting. This is for the hobby lobby prompt.

Coralline by Neil Gaiman, my favourite author. I haven’t seen the film and even though this was written for a younger audience I enjoyed it. But then I do love the way Neil’s mind works.

The Alchemist by Paulo Corlho. Another classic this for the get your zen on prompt. I really enjoyed this and highly recommend it but it’s a bit of a marmite book (you either love it or hate it).

Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury A dystopian classic.

The Botanist’s daughter by Kayte Nunn. A beautiful book with 2 female leads one in present day and the other in the late 18th Century.

My Brilliant Friend by Elena Ferante set in the poor area of Naples.

The Ruin of Kings by Jenn Lyons the start of a 4 part series A chorus of Dragons. I enjoyed this book but not as much as I thought I would. It’s written in a strange way with lots of footnotes and a complicated plot. I’ve started the second book and that’s better, so far at least.

With that I’ve done all the prompts (some of them twice) except for the eagerly awaited release.
