Well hello there!
Welcome to the Reader’s Nook, and wish you a very happy new year!
I’m so thrilled that you’re joining me on the Book Bingo this year. I envision this space as a secret Reader’s Cafe, where we can all gather together once a month to discuss the books we’ve read, talk about any quotes or ideas that stood out for us during our readings, and share little reviews.
Since this space is exclusively for readers and not too easy to find, I’m hoping it feels safe for you to hang out here and talk books. Please do invite your friends to join us on the journey - more readers here means more book enabling for all of us. Which is never a bad thing….until it is. Ha!
So, let’s begin! Have you picked the book you’re going to read first this year? Or are you still finishing a book that you started last year?
After the debacle with H. Murakami, whose novel Sputnik Sweetheart essentially gave me a reader’s block, I’m starting the year with one of my favorite authors - Joanne Harris. I’ve had The Gospel of Loki sitting on my bookshelf like a treasure that’s just waiting for the right time to be opened. Well, 1 January 2021 was the magic date for the treasure to be opened, and it’s sucked me right in!
I’m also reading How to Do Nothing: Resisting the Attention Economy by Jenny Odell, which I started towards the end of December. I’m going slow with this one, taking my time to read and mull over some of the ideas in the book.
Your turn! What are you reading or planning to read this month?
Invite your friends to join us on the journey!
The Beekeeper of Aleppo is based on the truth and is about Syrian refugees. It’s a sad but interesting tale. A bit too realistic for me I normally like to escape into a book so choose fantasy over facts normally. I won’t spoil the Thursday Murder club for you. If you intend to read it it’s best fresh and unspoilt by others opinions. That’s why I rarely read the blurb on the back of a book.
Hi. I’m Diane
I’ve just finished reading the Thursday Murder Club by Richard Osman that my daughter bought me for Christmas. I loved it, lots of plot twists.
Currently I’m reading A Tail of Two Cities by Charles Dickens in an attempt to read all the ‘classics ‘ and The Beekeeper of Aleppo by Christy Lefteri. That I picked up shopping in Tesco! It’s well written but not my normal style so I’m going slower than usual which could be a good thing. If hooked I cannot put a book down and will just read till it’s finished. A book in a day is not unusual for me, especially if I’m on holiday.
